I like the idea of a forum, and have used them in the past. I hope to add to it, (in my own way). I have no illusions about mass participation, or becoming a “figure”. Even one conversation is enough.
I checked out some of the Youtube channels, and those people do lots of work. With regard to the other names, I did not go to their Youtube, and I won’t be watching podcasts. HOWEVER, I DID FIND THEIR BOOKS.
1. Kishore Mahbubani, Can Asians Think? 2009 edition, about 270 pages (looks good)
2. Eric Li, Party Life, Chinese Governance and the World Beyond Liberalism, 2023 edition, about 250 pages (looks good)
3. Zhang Weiwei, THE CHINA WAVE Rise of a Civilizational State, 2012 edition, about 170 pages, (looks good)
4. Martin Jacques, I didn’t like the look of his book. When China Rules the World, 2011, and I did not take it.
5. Yan Xuetong, LEADERSHIP AND THE RISE OF GREAT POWERS, 2019, about 215 pages (looks good)
6. Jin Keyu, The New China Playbook, 2023, maybe 280 pages, (must be good)
7. Justin Lin, THE INDUSTRIAL POLICY REVOLUTION I and II, with Stiglitz, 2013, 1,000 pages together (way too long, forget it)
8. Daniel Bell, The East Asian Challenge for Democracy, 2013, Articles to 400 pages, (maybe something to look at. The word "Democracy" is probably a give-away.)
9. John Mearsheimer, many older books, I took, The Tragedy of Great Power Politics, 2001, about 250 pages, (in ten chapters, not sure).
HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS TO THE BOARD MEMBERS:
A. Has anyone read some of these books? Which ones are must-reads?
B. As I say, I am in possession of these Pdf files. Who wants to read one? I’ll upload it here.
C. I will probably focus on the newer ones first, that can consider the current war, and the shorter ones. This is my usual process, and I have many other books that I am scanning and extracting chapters from. So it will take time. But these are new ones about China.
D. When I find something new to me, I’ll attempt to focus on a few atypical points and bring them to your attention. Ask about them.
THANKS FOR ALL THIS VALUABLE STIMULUS.
