And everything changes - Playing for Change.
There was this bunch of people who decided to put music together from musicians right across the world. The musicians recorded in their own countries and then sent in the music and it was produced - some good, some a little synchopated but it remains fun to listen to. Later on, they started receiving UN funds and for a period I could not listen to it - it was all We Are the World, Bono style, but that changed as well. These days they have such deep tentacles in music schools and classes in many places in the world. playingforchange.com/
This is the very first song that I listened to. Some of the instruments I had never seen before or even knew about and one wonders how on earth they could put the music together.
The one project that they did, was to feature street musicians and Grandpa Elliot, a street musician from New Orleans, became a beloved co-musician in many future pieces. This old man, short of teeth, presents a beautiful love and he went on to tour with them as they grew the group.
They produced the music of specific countries where they featured all the different local styles. This one is Mexico and is called Mexico Lindo y querido - beautiful and beloved Mexico
Now there is a PFC band performing all over and this is from Australia where Grandpa Elliot appears again.
Chanda Mama is an Indian folk tale
A rich musical jewel box to listen through - there sure will be something you like.
